Welcome to Umberger Performance! I would like to congratulate Bri McLaughin(Cleveland, Ohio) of RMU's Woman's Hockey Team on making the United States Woman's U-22 Team. I have great confidence that we will be watching Bri in the net representing the Unites States in the upcoming Olympic Games. It's all about numbers.... There are 251 scholarships available in a given year in Men's Division I Hockey. There are approximately 75 scholarship in Men's Division I Lacrosse. Those number don't seem all that bad. Take a step back and consider how many young men are competing for those few spots. Hockey players, consider not only the thousands playing in the US but Cananda. Lacross athletes, you are in the same boat with Canada and their Box snipers. The numbers basically require you to, be in at least the top 10% in the players playing your game. Are you the best in your town, county, state? The USC football team has 8 tailbacks that are all All-State from somewhere in the country. Many will only see the practice field. These are numbers for collegiate sports. The numbers are even more scary for professional sports. How many Heisman Trophy and Hoby Baker Trophy winners actually have profession careers? The answer is very few. It is really scary the number of athletes that fall off of the face of the earth at the professional level. They simple don't have what it takes to excel in the professional ranks after dominating at the colligate level. In my opinion, it centers around work ethic. God given ability allowed them to dominate lesser athletes in college. In the professional ranks, everyone is a so called "freak". I personally know of several hall of fame potential athletes whose careers were cut short or ended in mediocrity due to numerous injuries. Many injuries occur from lack of preparation for an extensive professional season. One MBL slugger was a phenom as a rookie and fizzled out to an above average player due to a career of nagging injuries. He was not a hard worker and I do not think that he has changed his feelings on the subject.. What are your dreams? What are your goals? What is the “perfect you”? If your goal is making the high school team, to be rewarded with a college athletic scholarship ($100k-250k+), make the NHL, reach your goal weight, or simply create the “perfect you”, I am the expert who can make those dreams come true. "I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed." - Michael Jordan I am a life coach as well as a strength and conditioning coach; hence the term, “performance enhancement coach”. I was a business owner in the financial services industry for several years on straight commission. This experience taught me first hand that a discipline plan, combined with exceptional commitment, can lead to outstanding results. If losing weight was easy, everyone would be like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. If making "the league" were easy, every kid at the local rink would be the next Sidney Crosby. I am the coach who will sit down with you and find out what motivates you to help achieve the perfect you! I work with other sport specific coaches (football, hockey, skating, lacrosse, etc.) to help athletes achieve their dreams. In my 4 Step System, I set my priorities on the Psychological, Physical, Tactical, and Technical aspects of training (see training methodology). Through dream realization, I aim to inspire the clients to achieve mastery over their mind and body. This confidence and strength is an unrealized benefit when they leave the playing field and have to make decisions daily in their lives and careers. Greatness isn’t hard to achieve. It’s rather simple if viewed from a distance. One must be disciplined, systematic, and driven. Is greatness being a gold medalist, a CEO, or doctor? Maybe... I believe greatness is pushing to the limit (and maybe beyond) the tools and talents that God has given us. Larry Bird comes to mind, as does Lance Armstrong, Alonzo Morning, and so many others who overcame great obstacles ( – their own mortality) and didn’t listen to the word "can’t"! I'll leave you with the most intense quote that I have ever read from the greatest wrestlers of our time! He was always 100% dedicated to what he was doing at that specific time. "No one can completely believe that I am natural. The most important drug is to train like a madman. The people who accuse me of taking drugs are those who have never trained once in their lives as I train every day of my life" - Alexander Karelin PhD.- 3X Olympic Gold Medalist in Greco Roman Wrestler, 9X World Champion and went 10 years without giving up a single point.
